Today it is a global society so the purpose of education is to prepare kids to truly be global citizens, but to do it in a way that really is nurturing the uniqueness of them" - Peter Senge

A person will establish a life purpose, including

Establish personal values and beliefs for living on the planet.
Develop (skills, knowledge and experience) and grow in the natural world as a cognitive organism.
Establish personal objectives / goals and means to achieve them. (purposeful: Ackoff, Steven Covey).

A life purpose may vary depending upon the developmental state of the person. Here are some examples:

Infancy, survival.
Childhood, learning and fun
Young adulthood, learning and identifying life purpose
Adulthood, learning and fulfilling or reinventing purpose.

A person will also contribute to one or more social systems.

To contribute to a household
To contribute to society or government
To contribute to an enterprise or community of practice
