Background

The concept of a system description came from using the Root Definition found in the Soft Systems Methodology created by Peter Checkland.

The Root Definition provides a way to document a Human Activity System that allows comparison or deep understanding of a social system situation.

The concept has been extended to produce a System Description that can be applied to any type of system.

Various system description templates were tried with a number of system types. When finalising the System Description, I realised that many of the sections of the description appeared to represent views of the system from various perspectives. This led to considering a system description to be similar to an architecture description and using the same process to create a System Description Architecture Description Framework as would be done for any type of system.

The system description has now been designed using this process.
